Over time, I’ve realised that my real passion lies in telling stories about our planet, our oceans, and the wildlife we share them with, particularly stories that can give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.
Environmental stories can sometimes feel overwhelming or discouraging. I’m interested in taking a different approach, telling stories that inspire people to make a change, while still giving important issues the attention they deserve. Ultimately, I want my work to leave people feeling informed, inspired and excited to care about the world around them.
Outside of work, I’ve been writing my own personal blog since I was 18, documenting the places, people and experiences that have shaped me.
And when I’m not writing or working, you’ll usually find me with a camera. Photography is another passion of mine, and I’m particularly keen to transition into wildlife cinematography.

Ruth
I hold a First-Class Master’s degree in Politics and Social Research Methods from the University of Southampton, where I was placed on the Dean’s List. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in research, critical thinking and analysis, which I bring together with practical experience across journalism, live broadcasting and editorial production.
Alongside my journalism career, I’ve developed a particular interest in natural history and environmental storytelling. I managed Ruth2Reef, an environmental column exploring animal behaviour and local environmental issues, while also covering and promoting conservation initiatives in the region. I have specialist knowledge of turtle behaviour, conservation and rehabilitation, having worked as a turtle carer, and I’m passionate about finding engaging ways to communicate stories about wildlife and the environment.
Earlier in my career, I worked as an Editorial Team Leader at Life Publishing Group, where I mentored writers and oversaw content across regional newspapers and lifestyle magazines. Working across different forms of journalism has taught me how to find the story, ask the right questions and communicate complex subjects in an accessible and compelling way.
