Hello!
I’m a journalist and editor with a strong foundation in research and storytelling, driven by an enthusiasm for people, place, ocean and the planet.
I hold a First-Class Master’s degree in Politics and Social Research Methods from the University of Southampton, where I was placed on the Dean’s List. I bring rigorous research skills and sharp editorial judgment to every story.
I’m a certified scuba diver who loves sharing stories from the Great Barrier Reef. I also write a popular weekly column, Ruth 2 Reef, highlighting marine life and environmental initiatives across the Whitsundays and the Reef.
Alongside my leadership role, I mentor writers at Life Publishing Group, fostering growth and collaboration while overseeing content across regional newspapers and lifestyle magazines.
My expertise includes editorial leadership, digital and social media strategy, and professional photography, with contributions across all Life Publishing titles, complemented by freelance proofreading to help authors refine their work with precision and care.
I have worked in journalism, research, and a variety of commercial roles at places like Sky News, EcoVoice, Trigo, the University of Southampton, and Tesco Head Office. This mix has helped me blend storytelling with data, strategy, and a clear understanding of what audiences care about. Whether it is features, blog posts, messaging, press releases, or longer reports, I love creating content that genuinely connects with people.
Over time, I realised that my true passion lies in telling stories about the environment, the ocean, and wildlife, and giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. Since so many environmental stories can feel heavy or discouraging, I aim to take a different approach, using a positive and inclusive tone that inspires people and even excites them to get involved.
Also, if you’ve made it this far, you’ve probably seen my personal blog, which I’ve been writing in my spare time since I was 18. I am also a volunteer turtle carer and marine debris boat host, combining my love for the ocean with hands-on action. Another hobby of mine is photography, and I’m especially eager to further develop my skills in underwater photography.
